Evaluation

1)In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

It shows the mean conventions of a thriller through the slow and fast editing creating suspense and and other forms of music to show the thriller forms. Our use of mise-en-scene to create a at first normal house scene and then we used the music and other forms of media to portrait the forms of a thriller.
The editing of long shots close ups and mid-shots to create a eerie feeling that this is actually not a normal situation for the protagonist to be in.  Also we create more suspense and follow thriller conventions by having the actually ending at the beginning of the film which some thrillers do.

2) How does your media product represent particular media groups?

We have portrait black youth as well forms of teenage behaviour at extremes as breaking and entering and bullying rendering the protagonist useless at the acts of the antagonist as we do not even really see the true antagonist only glimpses of violence and shocking scenes.
This thriller represents the problem of gang culture and how there are know real benefits of it and how youth are finding lives with in crime. We use close up and fast editing to show how quickly crimes happen.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our film is similar to that of Adulthood as it is meant to show gang culture with in London. Working title films which distributed Adulthood would take interest as we try send out message of how gang cultures quickly evolve and then escalate into much more violent acts and serious crimes.
Working Title Films has links with in Universal films which would give a possibility of being shown in America and our use of media is set to help out all youth as it is our target audience.

4)Who would be your audience for your media product?

"Ransom" is aimed at youth however Adults would still find interest as it would alert them in to how hard life is for the youth it is a film all would be able to benefit from as it gives insights to all sorts of different life styles as it is only 3 minute opening we have not shown all characters but there would differently be many types of characters to portrait young Britain.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

We gained insights through questionnaires that young people enjoy thrillers and therefore we would be able to relate to them in forms youth seem to experience everyday, if we show them scenes of violence and gang culture they understand we can address different forms of tackling the problems of teenage gang cultures.
We address the audience in the forms they understand, within the film we find the mise-en-scene to be in the middle of a good home, which is to portrait that not all gang members live the hard life which is portrait that gang culture can come from any form, the editing is fast however use of long shots it very important as they give the most clear understanding of what is happening.

6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Using the Imac computers we had many difficulties with using the equipment and creating the thriller we wanted with the scenes we shot. Also finding the correct music to fit the thriller was difficult as we could not use copyrighted music. However we soon overcame these difficulties and created a thriller we are proud of using many different type of transitions and effects. The computers were the most difficult part to use however using the cameras were familiar simple but making sure we had shot several shots of the same seen just to cut them away was very undesirable but necessary.
Using the sound aspect of the Imac was the most difficult part as we were forced to change and cut away certain parts of the thriller just to suit the music but in the end this was more beneficial and i believed was better got the thriller overall.

7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do your feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the product?

The preliminary task lacked so editing the shots were good but the editing was extremely poor. The final product was very well edited and shows a lot more understanding in how it is intended to be editing.
With in the final product there are many different shot types and thriller conventions it shows true forms mise-en-scene as a lot of thought was put in to our final product and not rushed like out preliminary we are now able to edit competently and send messages to the audience through our thriller with the use of mise-en-scene, camera, and editing.
Our preliminary task we important as it showed us truly what we lacked and the fact we did not use effects and many different transitions it was worth looking at with in the final piece of work.

Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock was the leading director in the film genre of Thriller's. Alfred Hitchcock was born 13 August 1899, in Leytonstone, East London. His career began int the 1920's. Hitchcock made many film's here in the UK using the expressionist form of cinema he was shown in Germany. In 1939 Hollywood beckoned and he went out there and made his first Hollywood movie "Rebecca" and this won the "Best Movie" Oscar in 1940. Hitchcock made his last film in 1976 , "Family Plot" and then died in April 1980. In nearly all of Hitchcocks films he likes to show his characters in a visual way rather than through the use of dialogue.
I choose to add this to my blog through seeing few of his thriller he is a man who we could learn from wen editing our own thriller.

Mise-en-scene

This is the minutes from our meeting:
  • Discussion of were to shoot
  • Discussion of editing
  • Use of sounds
  • Varied shot transitions and effects.
This has to be discussed as this is the most important part, this is what will give us the most marks as the editing with in the aspects of the film.

Different transitions are important as it will add class to our thriller not to mention it will add thriller conventions.
